The Historic Marais District
SO MUCH TO SEE, SO LITTLE TIME
While this could be said of nearly all the places we visited in Paris, the Marais is filled with so much history--from Medieval times through the 20th century right up to the here and now--that I became overwhelmed. Our 2 1/2 hour tour only scratched the surface, and I would love to return to explore the crooked, narrow medieval streets and peek into all the nooks and crannies that we missed.

In the Marais, the Ancient Rubs Elbows with the New
From the vintage 'Pamela Popo' car parked next door to a medieval building
to a lycee student's bicycle chained to the fence;
or a recess game of soccer played alongside the remnants of a medieval wall;
or a steaming pot of traditional pommes de terres raclette to the colorful contemporary street art;
or the singular pop of color of a street post, an amaryllis bloom or a pink motor scooter;
These are the little sights of the Marais that can easily go unnoticed after viewing the grandeur of the museums, hôtel particuliers, and the ancient architecture.
But all together this is what makes the district so interesting and rich--
both in history as well as life in the 21st century.
